Through the Lens Photo Exhibit by Bo Villanueva’s 50-Year Journey in Photography at Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod
Recently, I had the privilege of attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Bo Villanueva’s “Through the Lens: A 50-Year Journey” exhibit at the 9th Art Cove Exhibit in Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod. Held late in the afternoon, the event was a perfect blend of art, nostalgia, and camaraderie, celebrating a lifetime of passion and dedication to photography. Bo Villanueva, synonymous with Negrense photography, has spent half a century capturing life through his lens. From his humble beginnings amidst the sugarcane fields of Negros to international recognition, his journey is nothing short of inspiring.
Ribbon-Cutting Moment [ Through the Lens Photo Exhibit ]
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was a proud and heartfelt moment. Bo was joined by Negros Cultural Foundation President Ms. Lyn Gamboa, former Silay City Mayor Mr. Oti Montelibano, and Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod’s Rooms Division Manager Mr. Archie Javellana. As they cut the ribbon and officially opened the exhibit, the late afternoon sunlight streaming through the venue seemed to mirror the warmth and admiration everyone felt for Bo’s incredible milestone. It was terrific seeing friends, fellow artists, media members, and supporters unite to honor Bo’s half-century journey. This wasn’t just about showcasing photographs; it was about celebrating a life dedicated to preserving moments and telling stories through art.
A Journey Through the Lens
Bo’s exhibit features an impressive collection of his works spanning decades. The restored black-and-white photographs from the 1970s were particularly striking—each one felt like stepping back in time. There were also stunning 11” x 17” mounted prints, black-framed canvas pieces, and large framed canvases enhanced with acrylic paint, showcasing his evolution as an artist. Bo’s journey began in 1977 when he joined the Bacolod Camera Club and the prestigious Camera Club of the Philippines (CCP) in 1978. His works became a regular feature in CCP’s annual calendar, earning him numerous awards and citations. After 25 years of active participation, he was honored with Lifetime Membership—a testament to his dedication to photography.
International Recognition
Bo’s talent has not only been celebrated locally but also on an international stage. His work was featured in prestigious exhibitions like the 2009 Kellicut International Juried Photo Show, solidifying his reputation as a master photographer and putting Negros on the global map for arts and culture.
Giving Back [ Through Art Through the Lens Photo Exhibit ]
What makes this exhibit even more meaningful is its purpose beyond art. Proceeds from “Through the Lens” will help establish the Arts Foundation of Talisay and support outreach programs for underprivileged children through the Knights of Columbus Council #6036. Seeing how Bo uses his passion to give back to the community that has supported him throughout his journey is inspiring.
Through the Lens Photo Exhibit: A Must-See
The exhibit runs until February 25, with new artworks set to be unveiled from February 26 to April 6. If you’re an art enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates stories told through photographs, this is an event you shouldn’t miss. For inquiries or artwork purchases, visit Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod’s front desk or check out the catalog online at Through The Lens Brochure.
As I left the event that late afternoon, I couldn’t help but feel inspired by Bo Villanueva’s journey—a journey fueled by passion, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to his craft. Here’s to celebrating his past achievements and what lies ahead for this incredible Negrense artist!
