The Art of Drinking Coffee: A Personal Journey Through Tradition and Trend
Growing up in a house where the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee was a constant companion, I didn’t just develop a love for the beverage; I inherited a piece of our family’s cultural background. Mornings were sacred. Our dining area, filled with the comforting scent of coffee, was where my parents and their friends reveled in their shared passion. I remember vividly how folks would bring coffee harvests from their backyards and offer them to my parents. My folks would then roast and grind these beans, creating a brew that was both a ritual and a joy.
Childhood Coffee Culture [ The Art of Drinking Coffee ]
Back then, coffee was strictly an adult affair. As kids, we were often told to steer clear of it, and the very thought of us sipping on coffee would draw amused glances from the grown-ups. However, on those rare occasions when we convinced my mother, she’d prepare a watered-down version—black coffee diluted with hot water and a generous splash of milk to mask the bitterness.
Today’s coffee culture—full of trendy cafes and social gatherings—is a far cry from my childhood. Coffee was then just a morning ritual for adults, not the fashionable beverage it has become.

As a coffee lover, I find solace in coffee after meals or during quiet moments. The aroma and warmth offer a special relaxation, making each sip a small indulgence. Knowing coffee’s health benefits, like its antioxidants and mental alertness boosters, adds more mindfulness to my coffee routine.
One of my most cherished coffee experiences came during a vacation in Indonesia. I roamed through Palembang, Lampung, Jakarta, and Yogyakarta, each city offering a unique coffee experience. From the bold Sumatran brews in Palembang to the smooth blends in Yogyakarta, the variety was as rich as it was diverse.

Indonesian Coffee Adventures
In Palembang, a friend introduced me to a unique brewing method called the “first wave.” Here, hot water and ground coffee were combined in a simple container, and you let the coffee settle before sipping. It was a new way to experience coffee, full of robust flavor and a touch of tradition.
In Lampung, a local blogger guided me through the city’s coffee scene, sampling everything from traditional brews to modern creations. Even the coffee at hotels carried a distinctive aroma, each cup telling its own story.
Exploring Coffee Culture
Jakarta and Yogyakarta offered even more coffee discoveries. In Jakarta, bustling cafes showcased innovative takes on classic brews with intricate latte art and bold espresso shots. Yogyakarta’s laid-back cafes served smooth, creamy blends that mirrored the city’s artistic spirit.

A coffee shop that doubles as a creative hub for artists, entrepreneurs, and thinkers. The space encourages collaboration and innovation, offering not just coffee but also workshops, networking events, and art exhibitions.
A cafe that combines coffee experiences from different countries. Every season, the cafe would focus on a specific culture and the country’s coffee traditions, such as offering specialty coffee beans and traditional brewing methods, with immersive decorations. In this cafe, customers experience the diversity of different country’s coffee cultures, traditions, and flavors. By showcasing the coffee heritage of other countries, customers can embark on a global coffee journey without leaving their city. Special events can also be hosted by the cafe such as live Ethiopian coffee roasting presented by international baristas showcasing the art of their home country’s brewing techniques. Loyal customers could receive a “coffee passport,” where every visit earns them a stamp from the country being focused. Collecting stamps from different countries can be rewarded by giving discounts, exclusive beans, or access to special events. A visionary entrepreneur is motivated by a desire to understand the wider picture and build businesses that provide more meaningful experiences, the cafe would be more than just a coffee shop selling freshly brewed coffee. It would be a place where people can learn about different cultures, and discover and enjoy the diversity of every country’s history of coffee. This cafe would be a great place not only for people who embrace diversity but also for people who just love to pause and relax and learn about other countries.
Good evening, Sir Jojo. Well as an aspiring entrepreneur we MUST innovate and as an aspiring I had an idea of making a Cup that is edible to the costumer and with a good coffee and delicious food or cup I should say its a unique and innovative one that help the environment with reducing garbage caused by cups it also something that I believe people are willing to try. Sir indi pag i share idea ko basi may ma kwa HAHAHAHA
Business Idea: As a social entrepreneur, my coffee shop will be a socially responsible and environmentally conscious space that provides meaningful employment to people with disabilities (such as individuals with Down syndrome and senior citizens). We will offer vegan and non-café product options to cater to diverse dietary preferences while promoting sustainability. The environment will be centered on comfort, featuring an interior art gallery and a mini Japanese-style garden outside, where customers can relax, either strolling through the garden or enjoying the air-conditioned interior.
Our commitment to sustainability includes eliminating single-use products like plastic straws and cups. We will encourage the use of reusable alternatives, such as mason jars, by offering discounts for repeat customers. Additionally, a portion of our space will feature a mini shop selling eco-friendly products, fresh produce, and vegan items. This will support local producers, and a portion of the profits from our mini shop will fund local charities that support children with disabilities.
In addition to serving exceptional coffee and food, we aim to foster social inclusion and community enrichment through skills training programs for our employees. This approach not only empowers individuals facing barriers to traditional employment but also promotes equity in the workforce. As an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, my coffee shop seeks to create an integrated society where everyone can thrive. By addressing systemic barriers that individuals with disabilities face, while promoting sustainability and supporting the local community.
Aligning in a risk-taker entrepreneur, a subscription-based, cold-brew coffee delivery service can be a great business. Just like a fearless innovator, this business would require investing in advanced brewing equipment and exploring innovative flavor combinations that push the boundaries of the traditional coffee experience. Mostly Filipinos are natured in practicality due to certain situations, but having this business idea could change or improve the mindset of Filipinos in such a unique implementation.
Even though introducing this involves a degree of risk because it requires a consistent customer base and reliable delivery systems, it still has the potential for recurring revenue and customer loyalty, which reduces the risks. But to implement this innovative idea, it can offer a unique value to an opinion that configures the risk-taking mindset and the ability to consistently succeed.
Launching a sustainable coffee subscription service with the purpose of promoting responsible buying and environmental responsibility is one possible coffee-related business idea. This fits nicely with the Social Entrepreneur mentality, which focuses using business to address social problems. In order to guarantee that sales support environmentally friendly agricultural methods, the business might collaborate with nearby farmers to offer organic, fair-trade coffee straight to customers. Also, adding facts about how coffee production affects local communities and the environment might help consumers feel more connected to the coffee they choose
With a risk-taking entrepreneur mindset, I would propose a coffee business that utilizes AI, such as ChatGPT, to conduct an interactive survey with the customers in order to gather their preferences on flavors, strengths, and brewing methods. Based on the survey results, the AI would formulate new coffee recipes or modify existing ones to suit individual tastes.
I’m thinking of introducing edible coffee cups to stand out in the cafe scene. It’s a bold, eco-friendly idea made from wheat or similar materials, creating a zero waste solution that will attract eco-conscious customers. I’ll offer flavored cups like dark chocolate for espresso, vanilla for lattes, and even herb-infused ones for adventurous tastes. It’s not just about coffee but the whole experience enjoying the drink and eating the cup! With smart marketing around sustainability, I’m sure this could grab attention, spark , and build customer loyalty.
And by embracing this eco-friendly initiative, you can take it a step further by giving back to the community. With every coffee purchase, you can participate in our “DOS FOR A CAUSE”campaign, where two pesos from every cup sold will be donated to local charities that support causes like feeding the homeless, providing education for underprivileged children, or funding environmental cleanup projects.
As I have read the article, I realized that each country has its own varieties and brewing techniques for coffee. I’ve been thinking: what if we opened a cafe with monthly themed events that showcased other coffee traditions? For instance, it might concentrate on “Dalgona,” a type of Korean coffee, for a whole month. Every month, the cafe’s décor would likewise be determined by its subject.
In addition, we may include talks about the health advantages of coffee and a course on conventional brewing techniques like a latte art class. In addition, we should have a very sustainable emphasis on our project as socially conscious Lasallians. We should use biodegradable cups and uphold a zero-waste policy in our café to demonstrate our empathy for environmentally friendly methods.
Because it offers customers/consumers new experiences and introduces inclusivity, this café company concept is likely to prosper or enter the market. It serves as a gathering spot for community and education about various beverage customs and cultures in addition to being a location to get a drink.
Open a coffee shop for a cause. A portion of the sales will go to charity, and the goods will be packaged in biodegradable
materials to help the
environment.
The business I have in mind aligns with the passionate entrepreneur who has a mission to provide a safe and enjoyable space, especially for those who want to relax, de-stress, and hang out with friends. This is the perfect and ideal place to enjoy with friends because you can do a lot of things here. For example, you can enjoy food treats and chat with friends, listen to music while drinking or eating, and even relax and work on school projects. My idea is a cafe located near schools, buildings, and along the road, so that it can be easily seen by passersby. To attract more customers to my coffee business, I will consider introducing a selection of baked goods and light meals that complement my coffee offerings, along with hosting local musicians or open mic nights to create a lively atmosphere. I will implement a loyalty program to encourage repeat visits and organize seasonal events, such as themed tastings or special promotions. Additionally, I will host the game nights to foster social interactions and add outdoor seating for al fresco dining. Finally, I will establish themed days to give my customers compelling reasons to visit regularly. In this way, being a passionate entrepreneur truly shines, as having multiple things in my business proves that I love my business and my customers.
With the mindset of a visionary entrepreneur, the idea of a cafe and a clothing shop sparked to me. As mentioned in the blog, today’s coffee culture is full of trendy cafes, and it is true, but most of these cafes offer a chill and relaxing place where people can talk to their friends and colleagues. So why did I think of a clothing shop and a cafe mixed together? Since I have a big interest in clothes and I know many people in my generation also do. This coffee shop will offer a section where people can select different kinds of garments, from hats to shoes, and it will also sell the styles of clothing available. Most importantly, the cafe will sell coffee, of course, and also different kinds of beverages to different kinds of people. This cafe will also have different kinds of activities, such as board games, console games, etc., so they can play them with their friends, colleagues, or people they can meet at the cafe. Building a community will effectively help the growth of this cafe shop idea. By making limited clothing drops so people can look out for it and also having a day jazz session listening party, these things will help the cafe have a loyal community/customers that will chill and buy coffee. And lastly, the whole point of this cafe is to have a place where you can belong and meet people that you might have a similar interest with because, at the end of the day, coffee is much better with a companion.
For me sir I would propose an idea “Coffee for a cause” where every coffee you sell, there will be a portion of profits that will go to the farmers, where they can use it for healthcare, modernized agricultural equipment’s, educational program etc.
The article mentions that coffee has health benefits, such as antioxidants and mental alertness boosters. With the mindset of a social entrepreneur, I aim to create a unique and accessible coffee shop. I believe procrastination is a common issue today. I’ve also noticed that while some college students leave home early for important events, on regular days, many end up being late due to traffic. If you want to be on time and enjoy some relaxation before class, you’ll want to hear this out.
I plan to open a coffee shop near office workplaces, like call centers, and universities. The concept is a Multifunctional Cafe with capsule areas where customers can have private space to rest, stretch, or simply relax, with access to charging ports and Wi-Fi. Each capsule has a time limit based on your chosen duration of stay. Additionally, your coffee will be delivered directly to you, with a small table inside the capsule for your convenience. The target audience includes people who don’t want to be late, need a break, seek wellness, or simply want a quiet place to unwind. The café will also have a public lounge for those who just want to grab a coffee and chill.
I could start a coffee business that buys coffee beans directly from small farmers in places like Indonesia or the Philippines. This would help those farmers get paid fairly for their hard work. My business would also make sure that the coffee is grown and made in ways that are good for the environment.
I can also sell the coffee through online or in cafes, telling the customers that it’s ethically sourced and eco-friendly. A part of the money I make would go back to the farmers’ communities to help with things like education or farming projects that protect the environment. This way, my business would not only sell coffee but also help people.
My idea is to make a coffee machine like vending machine. It’s a simple concept but my target audience is those who doesn’t have time to make or go to a coffee shop. People who works or even student. So this coffee brewing machine will be scattered everywhere and will brew the coffee that you like. There will be different types of coffee in the menu and a tea for those who don’t drink coffee. this machine works like a vending machine you put your money and you choose a coffee also the prices of the coffee will depend on the coffee. So this idea of mine is for efficiency because not all people that loves coffee have time to buy coffee or make coffee. Anyway everyday you collect the profit you also add those fresh coffee beans expensive or cheap so I recommend that you have some workers to go around everyday to get the profit change or add coffee or check for maintenance.
Coffee has been a must in todays generation, even early teenagers are now drinking coffee. A business idea that I can think of is a coffee shop and an art studio combined, in which customers can color, build or experiment, this coffee business idea comes with a twist, since this is a coffee-art studio shop, customers would have the experience to experiment their own blend of coffee, which means they would have different options of beans that they can blend, and it would trigger their curiosity since this is a coffee-art studio shop, in that way we can give the customers a new experience that would engage their creativity, implying the essence of being an artist while enjoying a self blended coffee.
For The Visionary entrepreneur, I propose “Bean to Brew Collective”, a globally inspired coffee subscription and educational platform. The Visionary thrives on big-picture thinking and long-term goals, making this concept a perfect fit. The business offers customers exclusive access to coffee varieties sourced directly from traditional coffee-growing regions such as Palembang, Lampung, Yogyakarta, and the Philippines, each with unique brewing methods and cultural stories.
This service wouldn’t just sell coffee,it would also promote knowledge by offering video tutorials, live brewing sessions with experts, and storytelling about each coffee’s origin and local culture. Subscribers could also access a community platform, where they can share coffee experiences, evolving the brand into an ecosystem of coffee lovers dedicated to learning, culture, and craftsmanship. This aligns with the Visionary’s ability to inspire and lead with a long-term, impactful business model.
As coffee culture continues to evolve I think as an entrepreneur it is important to have this mindsets of Social Entrepreneur behaviour that go with the follow to Global Trend. Proposing an eco-friendly environment that means minimize the use of plastic cups and straws, and your coffee shop you can partner with environmental advocates that eliminates the use of plastics by this your not only helping the environmental advocates but also advertising your coffee shop.
Introduce new flavors or unique blends such as specialty cold brews, matcha infused drinks etc. Since the customers are mostly teenagers who likes favoured coffe or cold coffee. Customers who prefer drinking coffee while walking may also purchase cold or flavored drinks. You may try DIY coffee stations as well for customers who like to experiment different flavors of coffee that they want to try or for costumers who love to follow trends.
A business idea I could think of could align with a passionate entrepreneur with a mission to provide a safe, quiet, and useful place for people, especially students who do not have the luxury of having a quiet and peaceful space, books, and laptops, to use when doing work or school work. It will also offer people especially students who are looking for work experience and extra money, training them in coffee making allowing them to learn and earn giving them a head start in their job journey. The idea would be a cafe located somewhere near schools and other buildings to be easily accessed, the cafe will have two areas the first is a normal coffee shop where people can buy quality made coffee and pastries for a decent price, and the other would be a separate room or area with comfortable chairs and sofa with different variety of books, entertainment and academic, and single person cubicles with desktops inside. Whenever someone needs to make use of these resources, they can go to the cafe and make use of the designated area, while also having the opportunity to eat and relax with the offered menu. For its other mission, the cafe will hold an opening for training every year where anyone can apply and once approved, can receive training and the opportunity to work in the cafe for up to a year before being replaced to give chance and opportunity for other people. This business idea could be a good way for the cafe to earn while at the same time helping the people in the community who are in need of such resources and help.
World of Coffee is an international coffeehouse that connects global coffee traditions within one experience. World of Coffee has a menu inspired by coffee culture around the world, including everything from Turkish coffee to Italian espresso, and even Vietnamese egg coffee. Beyond the menu, the cafe provides the unique brewing and experience associated with that region of the world.
Founded on a visionary concept, World of Coffee is not just about serving coffee; it is about celebrating the complex and diverse coffee traditions around the world. the cafe’s theme is based on regions of the world, complete with decor, service styles, and music that reflects the country and culture’s coffee culture. Every week, there are themed coffee events that provide an introduction to a coffee ritual from around the world, including Ethiopian coffee ceremonies or pour-over coffee from Japan. The Global Coffee Passport is a service that helps provide an experience with a more direct connection to world coffee culture, providing an opportunity to earn stamps for trying coffees from different parts of the world. Every week, World of Coffee will tease the chance to earn beans from a smaller batch roaster in a remote region of the world, increasing the appreciation and value provided in the Global Coffee Passport experience.
Risk-Taker:
• Pop-Up Coffee Stand: This entrepreneur could set up a mobile coffee stand near campus, offering unique coffee blends and specialty drinks. They could experiment with different brewing methods and flavors, catering to the tastes of their college student clientele. The risk lies in finding a good location, managing inventory, and competing with established coffee shops.
Visionary:
• Coffee-Themed Study Space: This visionary entrepreneur could create a coffee shop that doubles as a study space, offering comfortable seating, Wi-Fi, and a quiet atmosphere conducive to learning. They could also host workshops and events related to studying, productivity, and personal development. The long-term vision is to become a popular destination for students seeking a productive and inspiring environment.
Passionate Entrepreneur:
• Coffee Club with a Cause: This passionate entrepreneur could start a coffee club that focuses on promoting ethical coffee sourcing and supporting local farmers. They could organize coffee tastings, educational events, and fundraising activities for their chosen cause. The passion for coffee and social responsibility would drive the club’s activities.
Social Entrepreneur:
• Recycled Coffee Grounds Project: This social entrepreneur could collect used coffee grounds from local cafes and repurpose them into useful products, such as compost, fertilizer, or even biofuel. They could partner with campus garden clubs or community organizations to promote sustainable practices and reduce waste. The focus would be on environmental sustainability and community involvement.
The coffee related business idea that I proposed for a Passionate Entrepreneur would be a Coffee Cuisine. This type of business idea is not only for dishes but for coffee beverages and desserts as well. Not only are they selling brewed coffee but they also have a kitchen to teach dishes to those who are a fellow fan of coffee. This business would allow the customers or any people that are interested in coffee to be taught cooking classes that focus on using coffee as the main ingredient of the dishes. By these, the owner can share their passion and knowledge about coffee with other people and it is also an opportunity for the customers to learn new things while having a unique experience. These can teach them that coffee is not only limited to drinking but can also be used in a variety of ways in cooking and baking. An example of these dishes would be steaks, salmon and ribs that are braised, rubbed and glazed in a coffee based sauce.
With a risk-taking spirit and mindset, I suggest a coffee shop where your coffee will be elevated to a whole new level. For example, you could serve your coffee as ice cream, give customers a glass with half a cup of water and ice, and tell them to stir the ice cream coffee into the glass until it turns into iced coffee. Aside from that, I will offer a product with service in the form of coffee with a picture or photo (polaroid) that you can take home with you after drinking coffee because, in the Philippines, drinking coffee is valued as if you are taking a break from all of your workloads or just simply catching up with your old friend that you have not seen for a long time and you always want to capture it.
Considering a Risk-Taking entrepreneur mindset, a mobile coffee service business utilizing drones for delivery would be a perfect fit for an innovative product. With the constant innovation of technology, various uses have been discovered for drones. Offering a subscription to a drone delivery service to coffee shops would be effective in increasing the revenue and sales of these shops. Furthermore, the use of drones for delivery may seem appealing to the general public and can entice customers to purchase more from coffee shops that utilize the drone delivery service. However, the operational, and maintenance costs of the drones must be addressed which will affect the efficiency of delivery. There is also an increased risk of failure if the marketing strategy, target market, and operations of the drone delivery service business are not executed effectively. There is also a possibility to scale the coffee drone delivery service if expectations are exceeded and can develop into a global coffee brand that focuses on a drone delivery service.
My coffee experience
More than a drink, coffee can be called a taste, a feel, an expression of the bond between individuals, cultures, and stories. One of the memorable experiences that I had with coffee was visiting a small, family-owned farm in the Atok, Benguet. As I walked through those lush, green fields, that was when I learned how meticulous it is to cultivate and harvest coffee beans. I participated in an old brewing system known as “barako,” immersed by aromatic scents of freshly roasted coffee. Through this experience, my appreciation for the craftsmanship behind each cup, which requires patronizing from local farmers, was further cemented..
Business idea
For the Passionate Entrepreneur, an interesting business idea could come in a form of a local Philippine coffee education and tasting hub. The business offers workshops on brewing techniques, flavor profiling, and the history of Philippine coffee, linking consumers to the stories behind their drinks. The hub will promote sustainability by partnering with local farmers and cooperatives and building a community of coffee enthusiasts. This venture would celebrate the rich heritage of Filipino coffee but also empower farmers and increase local production standards. This is what promises a great future for the industry.
The Risk-Taker: Imagine opening a coffee shop hidden away on a bustling street where rent is low. You create a cozy, relaxed atmosphere with warm lighting, soft, comfortable seating, textured carpeted floors, and lush greenery. The hidden location makes it feel like a secret spot where people can unwind and linger. You rely on word of mouth, hoping visitors will spread the word about this hidden gem.
The Visionary: Every Wednesday, Wacky Mug Wednesday, costumers become part of an extraordinary tradition, turning a simple coffee run into a fun and personalized experience. Those with the quirkiest designs have the chance to win Mug of the Month, with their mugs posted on the wall along with the other monthly winners. This isn’t just a coffee break, its a community with originality and a legacy that grows with every wacky mug.
The Passionate Entrepreneur: A weekly themed event called “Wacky Mug Wednesday” at your coffee shop that encourages costumers to bring their very own unusual and unique mugs. This promotes sustainability by reducing disposable cups and also creates a vibrant and community-oriented atmosphere. This event can feature lots of entertainment like a contest about which is the most funniest mug. The coffee shop can also partner up with local artisan and showcase their mug designs in the coffee shop which can be sold and the profit can be donated to charities.
The Social Entrepreneur: Coffee for a Cause a non-profit coffee shop that uses its profits to care for stray dogs and cats. The cafe focuses on providing food, healthcare, renovating shelters, and paying for the people who help out in the shelter. The profit could also be used in hosting adoption events collaborating with local shelters and showcasing animals that in need of a home.
As an art enthusiast and coffee lover, I would like to use this as an inspiration to create an art-themed coffee shop. Wherein, I will partner with local artists and ask them to curate paintings and art related to coffee. They could use coffee as their medium or they could create pieces that are coffee-related. Moreover, workshops and pottery classes will also be utilized in the business. The local artist could teach customers how to paint using coffee as their medium, and with that, they could create a relationship with the customers. Also, the customers could craft or create their own pots with their designs for pottery classes. In addition, the art displayed in the cafe is also an exhibition where people can buy the artwork. A portion of the proceeds can be donated to foundations/orphanages. All in all, this business idea will create an interactive and immersive experience for the customers. There would be a wide range of markets, from coffee lovers to art enthusiasts which can be beneficial to the business growth.
As an upcoming entrepreneur, I wanted to have a coffee shop with all of the well-known type of coffee drinks around the world in the menu just like Espresso from Italy, Kaffeost from Scandinavia, Café de olla from Mexico, Türk Kahvesi from Turkey and many more coffee drinks around the world. For coffee drinks to be “Authentic” I will also invest in importing and exporting the coffee beans that they use in this type of drinks based on where they originated. I will also learn as an business owner on how to do these types of drinks because in a cafe or restaurant setting, you must have a knowledge of the things that happening in your perspective business and as much as possible, you must be hands-on on these type of business venture.
