Negros Power’s Proactive Maintenance: A Commitment to Reliable Electricity
As a resident of Bacolod City, I’ve often felt the frustration that comes with unexpected power outages. That’s why I was pleased to learn about Negros Power’s recent proactive maintenance efforts on the Bacolod-Silay 69kV sub-transmission line. This initiative aims to enhance our electricity reliability and prevent unscheduled outages.
Understanding the Importance of Proactive Maintenance
The Bacolod-Silay sub-transmission line is crucial to our local power distribution system. It connects the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) substation in Bacolod to several key substations, including Panaogao and Lopez. However, this vital infrastructure has been in operation since 1979, and its age has made it susceptible to wear and tear.
During this maintenance phase, Negros Power focused on Segment P of the 30-kilometer line, which spans approximately 4.9 kilometers and includes 43 structures. The company planned to replace around 130 suspension insulators that have deteriorated over time. This proactive approach is essential for reducing the likelihood of faults and ensuring a stable electricity supply for our community.
Challenges Faced During Proactive Maintenance
A significant challenge the maintenance teams face is the line’s location, which traverses sugarcane plantations. Accessing these areas can be difficult, especially during adverse weather conditions. To tackle this issue effectively, Negros Power deployed at least 15 teams to ensure timely completion of the repairs.
I appreciate that they are addressing immediate concerns and taking steps to make future maintenance easier by considering relocating these lines along main roads. This strategic move would allow quicker access during emergencies and reduce repair times significantly.
The Long-Term Vision
Negros Power’s commitment extends beyond this single maintenance effort. The company has outlined a larger initiative to upgrade the 30-kilometer sub-transmission line over the coming weekends, with expected completion by February 2025. This includes replacing old insulators with modern polymer insulators that can withstand harsh weather conditions better than their predecessors.
Roel Castro, President and CEO of Negros Power, emphasized that while this maintenance is necessary now, there’s a long-term plan to enhance our power infrastructure further. By relocating lines to more accessible locations, they aim to improve overall efficiency and reliability.
Acknowledging the Impact on Consumers [ Proactive Maintenance ]
I understand that maintenance activities can cause temporary disruptions in service, and I appreciate Negros Power’s transparency in communicating these efforts. Engr. Mervin Dalian, head of the Network Development and Operations Group, acknowledged the inconvenience but reassured us that these actions are vital for making our power lines more robust and reliable.
As someone who relies on consistent electricity for both work and daily life, I find comfort in knowing that Negros Power is taking proactive steps to improve our power distribution system. Their dedication to upgrading infrastructure enhances reliability and fosters a sense of community trust.
Conclusion: A Brighter Future Ahead
In conclusion, I am optimistic about the future of electricity distribution in Bacolod City, thanks to Negros Power’s proactive maintenance initiatives. Their commitment to reliability and customer service reassures me that we are moving towards a more stable power supply.
As we navigate through these improvements together, I encourage my fellow residents to stay informed about ongoing maintenance efforts and support Negros Power in their mission to provide us with reliable electricity. Together, we can look forward to fewer outages and a brighter future for our community!
