A Review of Ishin Japanese Restaurant in Bacolod City
Recently, after our classes at school, my friends Lei Lani, Jojo Bayona, and I decided to treat ourselves to a Japanese dinner at Ishin Japanese Restaurant in Bacolod City. As Japanese food enthusiasts, we were eager to try out this cozy eatery and see what it had to offer. Here’s a detailed review of our dining experience, broken down into subtopics for easy reading.
Ishin Japanese Restaurant: Ambiance
Upon entering Ishin, we were greeted by the soft glow of faux cherry blossoms, setting a serene atmosphere. The restaurant’s intimate size, with only four six-seater tables, enhanced the cozy and welcoming feel. The black walls adorned with Japanese panels and paintings, complemented by the matching black seats and tables, created a sophisticated yet comfortable ambiance. The warm lighting added to the overall pleasant dining atmosphere, making it an inviting space to enjoy a meal with friends.
Despite its small size, Ishin’s layout was thoughtfully designed to maximize comfort and privacy for diners. The limited seating capacity allowed for more personalized service, creating a more intimate dining experience. The good air conditioning further contributed to the cozy ambiance, ensuring that guests could relax and enjoy their meal in comfort.
Ishin Japanese Restaurant: Service
The servers at Ishin, clad in traditional Japanese outfits, added to the authenticity of the dining experience. Their attire, coupled with their polite and efficient service, created a welcoming atmosphere. However, since they are wearing traditional attire I was expecting that they will greet us with the standard Japanese greetings that are customary in most Japanese restaurants. Despite this, they promptly led us to our table and provided us with menus, ensuring that we were well taken care of from the moment we arrived.
Their efficiency was evident in how quickly our orders were taken and served, allowing us to enjoy our dining experience without any unnecessary delays. Despite the lack of customary Japanese greetings, the servers’ professionalism and attentiveness made up for it.
Ishin Japanese Restaurant: Food
Lei Lani, Jojo Bayona, and I decided to try different dishes. Being in the mood for ramen, Lei Lani and I both ordered a bowl each. Lei Lani chose the Tokyo Ajitama Ramen, priced at 388 pesos, while I opted for the Tokyo Special Ramen, priced at 448 pesos. Jojo Bayona, on the other hand, opted for Karaage, a Japanese fried chicken dish. Additionally, Lei Lani ordered Kani Salad for sharing, a refreshing Japanese dish featuring sweet imitation crab meat, crisp cucumber, and tangy mayo dressing.
Ramen Experience at Ishin Japanese Restaurant
The broth in my Tokyo Special Ramen was truly memorable, evoking memories of a small restaurant I had visited in Tokyo. However, unlike my experience in Japan, the broth at Ishin was less greasy or rich. I attributed this difference to the climate, as I vividly recalled the richness of the broth clinging to my lips in Japan, a sensation that was slightly lacking at Ishin. While I cannot comment on Jojo Bayona’s dish, as we did not share, I found that my order of the Tokyo Special Ramen, which came with four slices of meat, was a bit lacking. Lei Lani, on the other hand, received two slices of meat in her ramen. Considering the thinness of the meat slices, I regretted not opting for the regular ramen, which was 60 pesos cheaper, as the only difference was 2 slices of meat.
Conclusion
Despite the slight disappointment with the meat portions in the Tokyo Special Ramen, our dining experience at Ishin Japanese Restaurant was delightful. The food was flavorful, and the ambiance was inviting. Moreover, the evening was made even more enjoyable by the laughter and camaraderie shared among Lei Lani, Jojo Bayona, and me. If you find yourself in Bacolod City and craving Japanese cuisine, Ishin is worth a visit.
