The sudden failure left over 40,000 of us without power, quickly turning our daily routines upside down. Immediate Response: Negros Power Steps In
As we waited in the dark, Negros Power wasted no time in taking action. The news that they were bringing in a 10 MegaVolt Amperes (MVA) mobile substation from Iloilo City gave us hope. The mobile unit is expected to arrive by Saturday and will be assembled at the Alijis Substation. By Tuesday, it should be up and running, restoring power to the affected feeders and bringing much-needed relief to our community. Knowing that Negros Power was working to bring in additional resources made many of us feel reassured that the situation was under control.
Temporary Solutions: A Lifeline Until Full Restoration
While we wait for the mobile substation to be fully operational, Negros Power has been working tirelessly to provide temporary solutions. They’ve rerouted electricity from nearby substations and connected our feeders to those still functional. This meant getting our lights back on sooner than expected for some of us. The company also laid down a new, higher-capacity cable spanning six kilometers to connect Murcia Feeder 1 to Alijis Feeder 3, which has a high load demand. This connection is expected to bring power back to even more homes by tonight, easing the burden on our community.
Long-Term Benefits: A Future with Reliable Power
The transformer breakdown was a stark reminder that our region’s power infrastructure needs serious attention. Negros Power had already planned to invest over 2 billion pesos in a comprehensive rehabilitation and modernization effort. These upgrades were supposed to begin next month, with the transition from CENECO to Negros Power as the new Electric Distribution Utility. Although the transformer’s failure sped up the timeline, it also highlighted the importance of these improvements. The new 18MVA transformer replacing the old one is the start of this long-term strategy. Once installed, it will provide a more stable and reliable power supply.
