BFP Champion Coastal Cleanup with Negros Power: More Than Just Wires, It’s About a Greener Bacolod
It’s inspiring to witness firsthand the positive impact that businesses can have on their communities. Recently, I had the opportunity to observe Negros Power partnering with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) for a coastal cleanup here in Bacolod City. Though I wasn’t actively picking up trash, simply being there and seeing the dedication of the volunteers left a lasting impression.
A Community United: Observing the Coastal Cleanup Efforts
On March 12, 2025, nearly 300 volunteers gathered at Prk. Punta Balas, Brgy. Pahanocoy, for the event. What struck me most was the collective spirit. People from all walks of life – Negros Power employees, BFP personnel, and residents – came together with a shared goal: to protect our coastline. Watching them work diligently, removing trash and debris, filled me with hope and admiration. It was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when people unite for a common cause.
Building Bridges: A Partnership Rooted in Shared Values
This wasn’t just a one-time event; it’s a continuation of the strong partnership between Negros Power and the BFP. Their previous collaborations, including the Red Zone Awareness Program in Barangay Banago and a tree-planting initiative in Barangay Felisa, demonstrate a shared commitment to community well-being and environmental sustainability. Observing this sustained effort gave me a deeper appreciation for the long-term impact that these organizations are having on our community.
The Importance of a Clean Coastline: Beyond the Surface
As I observed the cleanup efforts, I reflected on the importance of maintaining a healthy coastal environment. It’s about more than just aesthetics; it’s about protecting marine ecosystems, preserving biodiversity, and ensuring the health of our communities. The plastic waste and other pollutants on our beaches can devastate marine life, and polluted beaches pose health risks to swimmers and beachgoers. Seeing the volunteers remove this debris was a tangible reminder of the importance of responsible environmental stewardship.
Negros Power: A Commitment to Community and Sustainability
Negros Power’s involvement in the coastal cleanup exemplifies its commitment to corporate social responsibility. It’s inspiring to see a company actively engaged in protecting our environment and supporting community initiatives. By partnering with organizations like the BFP, Negros Power is demonstrating that it’s genuinely invested in the well-being of Negros Occidental.
A Vision for the Future: Inspired by Community Action
My experience observing the coastal cleanup has reinforced my belief in the power of community action. It’s a reminder that even small efforts can significantly impact when we work together. Negros Power’s dedication to community and environmental stewardship is commendable, and I hope it inspires other businesses to prioritize social responsibility and contribute to a more sustainable future for all. Witnessing this event left me with a renewed sense of optimism and a more substantial commitment to supporting organizations that are making a positive difference in our world.
