Returning to Baluarte Rest and Relaxation Resort located in Alegria, Murcia after two years evoked a mix of nostalgia and excitement. Our first visit, amid the pandemic, revealed lush greenery and a refreshing ambiance. However, this time, the scorching heat of El Niño had transformed the once-vibrant landscape into a spectrum of browns. Accompanied by my travel buddies and co-teachers from La Salle, Lei Lani Dusaban, and Sonny Cabahug, this visit was particularly different. As we strolled through the resort, we couldn’t help but feel a tinge of sadness as we marveled at the changes nature had undergone in such a short span. Despite the altered scenery, our laughter and camaraderie provided a delightful retreat from our daily routines.
Arrival and Check-in at Baluarte Rest and Relaxation Resort
Our arrival at Baluarte Rest and Relaxation Resort, just past lunchtime, was met with a warm and welcoming reception. To our surprise, our room was already prepared, well before the official check-in time of 2 PM. This early check-in was a pleasant surprise, particularly given the intense heat outside. The efficiency of the staff in preparing our room early contributed to a smooth and enjoyable start to our stay.
Room Upgrade and Comfort at Baluarte Rest and Relaxation Resort
Initially considering a room priced at ₱3,500, we were pleasantly surprised to be offered an upgrade to a more luxurious room for the same price. The upgraded room, originally priced at ₱3,800, was a spacious haven featuring two queen beds, perfectly accommodating our group of four. The room’s layout and furnishings exuded a sense of comfort and relaxation, making it easy for us to unwind after a long day of travel.
In terms of amenities, the room provided essentials such as liquid soap and towels. However, we noticed that toothpaste and toothbrushes were not included, which may be something to keep in mind for future guests. Overall, the room upgrade greatly enhanced our stay, providing us with a comfortable and inviting space to rest and rejuvenate during our time at the resort.

Outdoor Exploration
Excited to explore despite the heat, we set out to the creek, only to find it completely dry, which was disappointing ( of course this is Force majeure). The pools, which we had hoped would provide relief from the heat, were also disappointing. One pool had a greenish tint, indicating algae growth, while the other was murky, a sign of poor maintenance. We learned that they didn’t have water filtration and weren’t using chlorine to treat the water. This raised safety concerns for us, especially for the children.

Our dining experience at Baluarte Rest and Relaxation Resort was truly a highlight of our stay. Despite the setbacks earlier in the day, dinner at the resort’s restaurant exceeded our expectations. We learned that guests staying overnight are required to pre-order their meals before 6 PM, ensuring that the staff can prepare everything on time. We were impressed by the efficiency of the staff, who made sure that our dinner was ready exactly when we had requested. Their food pricing was also reasonable.
The meal itself was a delightful experience for our taste buds. The food was not only delicious but also beautifully presented, showcasing the culinary skills of the resort’s kitchen team. We savored every bite, enjoying the blend of flavors and fresh ingredients. The staff’s hospitality added a warm touch to our evening, making us feel truly welcomed and valued as guests. Overall, our dining experience at Baluarte Rest and Relaxation Resort was nothing short of exceptional, leaving us with fond memories of our stay.
Bonfire and Evening Pleasures
As the sun dipped below the horizon and the evening air cooled, our experience at Baluarte Rest and Relaxation Resort took a delightful turn. The resort’s thoughtful staff surprised us with a bonfire, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for us to enjoy. They had set up a cozy area complete with comfortable seating and a table where we could relax and unwind.
Sitting around the crackling fire, we were enveloped in a sense of peace and tranquility, enhanced by the soft glow of the flames. The flickering light danced across our faces as we sipped on wine, sharing stories and laughter under the starlit sky. The ambiance was truly magical, providing the perfect end to a day filled with exploration and adventure.
Overall Impressions and Recommendations for Baluarte Rest and Relaxation Resort
Our experience at the place was a mix of highs and lows. The scorching heat and dry environment, likely exacerbated by the El Niño phenomenon, were disappointing (we are not blaming the resort for this). However, the warmth and hospitality of the staff, along with the delicious meals, balanced out the negatives. We were particularly let down by the uninviting pool conditions, as the pools were supposed to be the resort’s highlight, but even the creeks were dry (we hate El Nino for this).
We believe that with improved maintenance, especially of the pools, and the implementation of proper water treatment measures such as chlorine, the resort could significantly improve its appeal. Despite our initial hopes of enjoying the water to cool down, we ended up spending most of our time in our room.
Moreover, while the resort does offer free Wi-Fi, the lack of television sets for entertainment was noticeable. This absence of alternative leisure activities was especially felt due to the disappointing pool conditions, which prevented us from swimming. Enhancing the entertainment options, such as providing TVs in rooms, could greatly enhance the overall guest experience.
Final Thoughts
Despite facing some challenges, we view Baluarte Rest and Relaxation Resort as a promising destination, particularly during the rainy season when the surroundings are expected to be more vibrant. The three of us, Lei Lani, Sonny Cabahug, and I, were genuinely grateful for the exceptional hospitality extended to us by the staff of the resort. We hope that in the future, we can revisit the resort and experience its potential improvements firsthand.

The first strategy that I recommend is to always consider what the customer wants. There are some expectations what the customer like about the resort and in order to consider it, will help the resort have a good relationship with the customer which can make them revisit the experience they had. Second, a good management and maintaining a good environment which can connect to the customers. This will provide a big impact to the customers especially their aim is to relax. Having a good and peaceful view can provide a good connection with the client especially that even others when looking a resort they want to go to, they always look what the visuals and environment of the resort. Third, Staff management. Having a kind staff is the backbone of the resort. They are the people who ensure your guests have a memorable stay, manage the daily operations, and create a welcoming atmosphere. Not all resorts offers or have a kind and good staffs. Baluarte resort having this kind of staff is amazing and provide strength of the establishment. And lastly, having a great leisure activities or providing them a playground or an activity which they can enjoy and escape their real world. Sir Jojo also stated in this article that they have lack of televisions. Entertaining your customers is very important. Having a unique and different surroundings that they used to is crucial. A destination that niche is nature would be a bit struggling or high maintenance to maintain especially when natural causes occur like the stated El niño. Which caused to divert the mood of the visitors because of the dry and brownish ambiance of the place which they did not come for.
Intensive strategy could help Baluarte’s specifically with product development. These days technology is innovative which we could apply even with natural matters which serves as alternative. With the plants they can look for watering machine/technology that could help with the drought. The same with the pool, this is a safety concern so the filtration and chlorine must be apply.
Related Diversification which they can add some activities in the resort but still related with nature so that the guests will have an alternative if they can’t access the water activities or they want something different. Giving the guests choices of leisure would ne great. And as mentioned that there is no television for entertainment, maybe they want the guests to connect with nature that’s why they intentionally did not provide television. It would be great if they will put tv on rooms as an entertainment for those guests who can resist the heat outside and won’t be able to do such activities.

However, the lack of basic amenities, such as toothpaste and toothbrushes, could be remedied by offering complete essentials to ensure guests have everything they need during their stay. Another strength is the resort’s majestic pools, which offer relief from the heat, though poor maintenance has led to algae growth and inadequate water filtration, raising health concerns. Implementing regular cleaning schedules and water treatment processes would greatly improve safety and enjoyment for all guests during hot seasons. While the resort offers free Wi-Fi, allowing guests to browse online and be entertained through their phones, the absence of entertainment alternatives like television sets limits leisure activities, especially during unfavorable weather. The resort should prioritize improving not just the services but also the facilities, it is one way to eliminate their weaknesses. Hiring experts that consult daily operation in maintaining the facility is a plus and can help attract guests and satisfy them by giving what they are looking for in a vacation. In line with that, being open for collaborations and partnerships will help them boost the image of their resort.
To enhance Baluarte’s performance by leveraging its strengths and addressing weaknesses, they should consider these four strategies; Enhanced Employee Training Programs—this will address high turnover and service quality issues, Unique Guest Experience—create exclusive packages or events that differentiate it from competitors, capitalizing on its strengths, Sustainability Initiatives—implement eco-friendly practices that appeal to environmentally conscious travelers, lastly Strategic Marketing Campaigns—leverage social media and partnerships with local businesses to promote unique offerings, attracting a broader audience and improving the resort’s occupancy rates.
Base on what i have read, some part was really disappointing but maybe there are reasons why it happen. The four strategy i made just to make the resort more convenient in the future would be; first, the pool because some people are planning to go overnight just to relax and swimming is one of the reason but they failed to make it happen thats why they need to clean and maintain the pool so that more tourist will come. Second, having no entertainment like what i saw at the blog theres no TV’s which could lead some people a boredom moment so for the upgrade of there resort they should have any entertainment like live bond. Third, the location were to far and can’t find easily some tourist might have a wrong destination so i would say its more convenient to people if it is near and easy to find. Fourth, the resort should be consistent to the point that it will be continuous, from the start that they have early check in up until they will leave in the said resort. Overall, i was agree for the moment because maybe the hindrance of their absence in some object are reasonable, we just don’t know what was really the true reason of it.
The four strategies that I could give to Baluarte rest and relaxation resort are the following:
First, they should have prioritized the needs of their guests especially the things on their respective rooms for the beneficial purposes of the guests and not to worry about what they’re going to use.
Second, to have high maintenance of their resort especially their pools area so that the guests can have fun swimming because of clean water .
Third, putting tvs on their rooms so that the guests can watch tv when they wanted to.
Fourth, they need to be ready for the unseen events or crisis that may occur. For example if it’s el niño and expected to have not enough water they should think other way on how they can maintain the cleanliness of their place especially the pool area.
Fifth, satisfy their customers by addressing their concerns.
For me the first suggestions is more “bahay Kobo” or tambayan that can make the guest comfortable, second is the condiments that are not complete but maybe they can provide it for guest. Third is to upgrade more rooms and television set to entertain the guest so that they can’t be frustrated even if the area is hot or cold because of the weather
Lastly they can make the pool improve with proper water treatment measures of chlorine. Pool is more important for guest because of the area to make them felt cool by enjoying with it.

Based on the review of Sir Jojo at Sipud Bar & Grill, where the restaurant has a welcoming and attentive staff that makes it a good experience for customers. However, the restaurant struggles with the quality of food. Some dishes lack flavor, and the pricing doesn’t match that, which is for me, I don’t want that. So, to improve the restaurant could enhance the taste of main dishes by investing in chef training, getting the customers’ feedback to adjust the menu, and making it sure that the prices match the quality of food so that the customers will be satisfied.

For me my first suggestion is that they need the resort needs to improve their pools by having a water filtration and by cleaning their pools with a clourine to treat the water. My second suggestion is that they need to have more ammenities so that if the weather is so hot they can stay in that place. My third suggestion is that they need to improve their resort by having a tv in each room so that the visitors/customers could have an entertainment in their rooms.
And my fourth suggestion is that they need to complete the essentials of the visitors because it is hard to buy a toothbrush in that kind of place because there is no place to buy it.

Secondly, they should prioritize in maintaining the maintenance and water treatment of the pool and implement cleaning ,filter and chlorine to ensure the safety and hygiene of the swimming area. Thirdly, by expanding the entertainment options. Lastly, functional strategy, these four strategies will help enhance the weaknesses and as well as can even improve and highlights their strengths.
A strategy that would greatly help the Baluarte Resort is the development of the territory of the pool, the introduction of new types of recreation, work with other companies in the area and the promotion of the institution on Social Media.
