Embracing Unity and Growth: My Unforgettable Teambuilding Journey with Aklan Catholic College (ACC)

In the heart of the picturesque Antique, a surprising encounter with Aklan Catholic College (ACC) sparked a transformative journey filled with camaraderie, growth, and cherished memories. As a facilitator, I never anticipated this teambuilding event’s profound impact on the ACC family and myself. Little did I know that beyond teaching, I would discover a close-knit community, warm-hearted individuals, and a shared passion for continuous learning.

The Human Resource Director’s Office of Aklan Catholic College (ACC), led by the capable Mrs. Omega D. Fernandez, organized the annual summer activities for the non-academic personnel from June 29 to July 1, 2023, at the picturesque Coop Ocean View Resort, Barbaza, Antique. These activities provided a platform for personal and professional growth and fostered a sense of camaraderie among the ACC staff.

A Journey from Aklan to Antique

Though ACC’s home base was in Aklan, the teambuilding event occurred at the breathtaking Ocean View Resort in Barbara, Antique. ACC’s commitment to their employee’s personal and professional development was evident in this thoughtful choice. With over 70 participants, predominantly non-teaching staff members, and some academic personalities, including Dr. Charles C. Villanueva – VPAA, Carolina P. Gonzalez – OSA Coor, Fe V. Tafalla – College Guidance Counselor, Dr. Richie B. De Mateo – Dean, Faculty of Criminology, Nilo Incognito – ACC Non-academic Personnel Association President, Mhargie Guevarra-Morales – Gender and Development (GAD) and External Linkages Coor, Ernesto Templo – TESDA Coordinator, and Bethany Abello – College Registrar, the stage was set for a life-enriching and enjoyable experience.

Day 1: Retreat and Reflection with Fr. Bong and Fr. Ambo | Aklan Catholic College (ACC)

The event commenced with a spiritually uplifting retreat, guided by Rev. Fr. Pelermo “Bong” Suganob, Jr. While the participants embarked on a profound inner journey, my esteemed colleague, Ma’am Gong, and I set out on a nearly 10-hour voyage from Bacolod to Antique, buzzing with anticipation for the forthcoming teambuilding activities.

The program featured several insightful talks on the core value of ACC, i.e., FAITH, delivered by Rev. Fr. Justy More and Rev. Fr. Glenn Magpusao. They shared their wisdom and guidance, emphasizing the importance of upholding the core value that ACC stands for. Their talks reminded the non-academic personnel to embody this value in everyday work and interactions.

Day 2: Engaging Team Building Activities

The much-anticipated teambuilding session began on the second day, and I was privileged to be the facilitator. ACC designed this event to encompass learning, self-reflection, and fun equally. The meticulously curated activities highlighted the school’s dedication to its employees’ growth and well-being. With interactive exercises, reflective discussions, and informative lectures, we embarked on a journey of self-discovery, collaboration, and empowerment.

Laughter and Camaraderie, Getting to Know the Aklan Catholic College (ACC) Family

Working with the ACC family was an absolute delight. Their high level of cooperation and eagerness to embrace the spirit of camaraderie were genuinely heartwarming. The team’s infectious humor and liveliness added an extra layer of joy to the teambuilding activities. I was thrilled to encounter Fr. Bong and two other ACC clergy administrators, Rev. Fr. Justy More and Rev. Fr. Glenn Magpusao. Among them, Fr. Justy stood out as the youngest and most humorous, and our interactions were filled with laughter and genuine connection.

An Unexpected Act of Kindness

Fr. Justy’s Invitation to Boracay: In an unexpected turn of events, Fr. Justy extended an invitation to visit the paradise of Boracay since I was nearby. Though initially hesitant, I couldn’t resist the allure of this generous offer. This act of kindness added another layer of excitement to an already unforgettable journey.

The team building event at Ocean View Resort was not merely a stand-alone activity for ACC; it was a testament to their unwavering commitment to providing the best education to their students. By investing in their employees’ growth and well-being, ACC demonstrated their dedication to fostering a positive work environment. This teambuilding experience was just one piece of the puzzle in their continuous pursuit of learning, self-reflection, and personal development.

In conclusion, as my time with Aklan Catholic College came to a close, I realized that this journey was about more than just facilitating; it was about embracing unity, growth, and family. Beyond the teambuilding activities, I discovered a place where people genuinely cared, learned from each other, and built bonds that felt like home. The Aklan Catholic College (ACC) family’s enthusiasm and genuine participation left an indelible mark on my heart, and I will forever cherish this extraordinary experience. ACC’s commitment to nurturing a supportive and inclusive environment for its staff, recognizing their contributions, and promoting their well-being shone through every aspect of the event.
